Below is information to help you learn what to expect at your study visits. If you have any questions, don’t hesitate to contact us.

Screening Visit

On the day of your screening visit, a member of our research team will meet you in the Movement Disorders Center located in Barnes-Jewish Hospital. The screening visit will last between 4 and 6 hours and we will provide you lunch on the day of your screening visit.

The  study will be further explained to you and we will answer any questions you may have. You will sign consent documents and other study documents. An interview about thoughts and feelings will be conducted with you and your child and your child will complete some computer and other study tasks. You and your child will meet with Dr. Kevin Black together and review tic symptoms and complete further assessments. Your study day will wrap up with a fine and gross motor assessment and a visit to our mock scanner.

The mock scanner is a simulation of the real MRI scan. It provides your child with the opportunity to see the scanning environment and get a better understanding of what a real scan is like.

MRI Scan Visit

On the day of your MRI scan visit, our research team member will meet you in the lobby of the East Building, located at 4525 Scott Ave. St. Louis, MO 63110. The scan visit will take approximately 2 hours.

Knowing what to expect for an MRI may help your child feel more comfortable with the experience. This video will walk your child through the process of having an MRI as part of this research study.
