The Tourette Association of America awarded the WUSTL Center of Excellence a Community Engagement Grant titled “Training the trainers: Empowering school counselors for outreach to teachers and students.”
This project focuses on educator education in the greater St. Louis area. Specifically, we intend to involve a hitherto-underappreciated resource in schools. School counselors are involved in teaching and support at the classroom level, and are perfectly situated to help identify children with tics and to provide information on supporting classmates with tics.
Goals
- Teach school counselors about tics. TAA has wonderful resources, but using them depends on recognizing tics.
- Create resources for school counselors. Each school counselor need not re-invent the wheel.
- Inform local school counselors of resources. Using existing TAA resources also depends on awareness of those resources.
